Happy 75th birthday to the King, Richard Petty. He was one of my earliest heroes, alongside Evel Knievel. Don’t tell the New York DMV.
Graham Hill could have been a movie character. The very definition of the dapper gentleman (complete with razor-thin mustache and English accent), he was one of the premier race car drivers of the ’60s, winning the Indy 500, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Monaco Grand Prix (five times) and the Formula One World Championship (twice). He died in 1975 while piloting his team plane. Today would have been his 83rd birthday.
