Nike basketball commercials in the ’90s were, pardon the term, unfuckwitable. Jordan was retired by the time they filmed this one, but seeing that he and Barkley were still somewhat fresh off the ‘93 Finals (and were close friends) the chemistry was perfect. And always one to throw in a curveball, Nike (rather, longtime ad agency Wieden & Kennedy) brought in Digital Underground MC Shock G to spice up the proceedings. And, in case you were wondering, this is all just a roundabout way of wishing Shock G a happy birthday today.
Well, at least Gerald had his arms up?
What’s easy to forget about Allen Iverson is just how small he was. Rather, is. Look at him here, as a rookie, facing up with Mike. Listed at six foot, 165, both of those measurements were generous. He floated in XXXL tees and baggy jeans, and maybe hit that height (and weight) in Timbs and doubled-up socks. Miss you, Bubbachuck.
Another terrible photo from All-Star 2003.
Yes, Blake Griffin can jump really high. No, it’s not unprecedented. Remember Michael Jordan? Alex English sure does. 1988 NBA All-Star Game, Chicago.
