Billy Ray Bates — aka “Dunk” — was a forerunner to modern enigmas including J.R. Rider, Harold Miner and Darius Miles. A high-flying 6-4 guard, he had all of the tools, but never was able to put it all together. His story is fascinating. Happy birthday, Billy Ray. Glad you’re still around to enjoy it.
